PNG to DXF free, transparent PNG supported
Convert a PNG to DXF free: we trace the shape in your PNG into closed outlines in millimetres, ready for a laser cutter, CNC router, plasma table or plotter. A transparent PNG works best, because the see-through part is simply left out. You get the DXF and an SVG of the same shapes. No account, no watermark.

Convert PNG to DXF for laser and CNC
- Drop your PNG into the box above (up to 20 MB). Black & white mode is already selected.
- Type the width you want the cut to be, in mm. The empty margin around the shape does not count.
- Check the preview, download the DXF, open it in LightBurn, LibreCAD, Fusion, AutoCAD or your machine software, and cut.
Every shape becomes a closed polyline on a layer called CUT, and the holes inside letters and shapes are their own closed outlines, so a laser cuts the inside of an “O” as well as the outside. The DXF is set to millimetres and the drawing starts at 0,0. A DXF is made of lines, not pixels, so you can scale it in your cutting software without it getting blurry.
Transparent PNG to DXF
A transparent PNG is the easiest input there is. The parts of the image that are see-through count as background and get no outline, so a logo, icon, sticker or cut-out comes out as exactly its own shape. A PNG with a plain white or coloured background also works: if the edges of the picture are one even colour, that colour is treated as the background.
- Logo with a transparent background: the opaque shape becomes the outline, holes included.
- Photo of a product or pet on a busy background: tick Remove the background first, so only the subject is traced.
- Always check the preview before you cut: what is black there is what becomes a shape.
Which PNG files convert well to DXF
A DXF for cutting is one colour of outlines, so the image is first turned into black and white. Logos, text, silhouettes, stencils, signs, icons and line drawings convert cleanly, so this works as a general image to DXF converter for any PNG. A photo turns into a stencil of its dark areas, which can look great on wood or metal but has many small outlines and may be too complex to cut well.
If the result looks empty, the tool says so instead of giving you a blank file. Try an image with a clearer shape against its background, or tick the background removal for a photo.
Can you convert a PNG to DXF without AutoCAD, Inkscape or Fusion 360?
Yes, and for a cutting job it is usually faster here. In AutoCAD, Inkscape, Illustrator, Fusion 360 or SolidWorks you trace the picture by hand, clean up the nodes and export, and a PNG that is only pixels has no outlines to start from. This free PNG to DXF converter online does the tracing for you in the browser, with nothing to install, and gives you the DXF to open in whatever program you already use.
This is tracing, not AI drawing: the outlines follow the shapes that are really in your PNG, so the result is as good as the picture. Black and white logos, silhouettes and bold shapes trace best; thin, fuzzy or very detailed images give rougher outlines. A DXF is a vector file made of lines, which is what a laser or CNC machine reads, and it is not the same as DWG; most cutting software opens DXF directly, so for these machines it is the file to pick.
PNG to DXF free, and the limit
10 images a day are free (shared with the background remover on this site, reset at midnight), no account and no watermark; a ShinobiTools pass raises it (up to 50 a day). Files up to 20 MB and 30 megapixels, traced at up to 2048 pixels. Your PNG is deleted as soon as the result is sent back.
Starting from a JPG? JPG to DXF is the same tool. Only need a vector for print or the web? PNG to SVG and Image to SVG keep the colours. Need the transparent PNG first? Use the background remover.
Common questions
Is PNG to DXF free?
Yes. 10 images a day are free, no account and no watermark. The allowance is shared with the background remover on this site.
Can I convert a transparent PNG to DXF?
Yes. The transparent parts are left out and the opaque shape becomes the outline, with its holes as separate closed outlines.
Is the DXF good for a laser cutter or CNC?
Yes. Every outer shape and every hole is a closed polyline on a CUT layer, in millimetres, which laser, CNC and plasma software need to cut a shape.
What size will the DXF be?
You type the width in millimetres before you upload; the height follows the image's proportions.
Which programs open the DXF?
Any program that reads DXF with polylines, such as LightBurn, LibreCAD, QCAD, Fusion, AutoCAD, Inkscape and most CNC and plasma software.
Can you convert PNG to DXF?
Yes. Drop the PNG in, set the width in millimetres and download the DXF. It takes a few seconds, with no software to install.
Is a PNG to DXF converter online as good as AutoCAD or Inkscape?
For cutting files, it saves the manual tracing. The outlines follow the shapes in your PNG, so a clean black and white logo gives a clean DXF. For heavy editing afterwards, open the DXF in your own CAD or vector program.
Is this PNG to DXF converter AI?
No, it traces the shapes in your picture into outlines. It does not draw anything new, so what is in the PNG is what you get.
Should I use DXF or DWG for a laser cutter?
DXF. Laser, CNC and plasma software opens DXF with polylines directly, and that is the format you get here.
Can I convert a colour PNG or a photo to DXF?
Yes, but a DXF for cutting is one colour of outlines. A colour logo keeps every coloured part as a shape; a photo becomes a stencil of its dark areas with many small outlines. Check the black-and-white preview first.
