The free tier is not a trial and does not run out. What the pass buys is volume and megapixels — the cut-out model is the same either way.
On the name. Sam Ridder is not what it says on my passport. Running a free tool means putting an e-mail address in front of the whole internet, and I would rather do that behind a name I picked myself. Everything else written here is true, and the person who answers that address is the person who wrote this.
Full resolution. No watermark. Actually free. Most background removers hand you a 625×400 preview and charge for the real file. This one doesn't.

I do. BGNinja is one person and one computer: a desktop machine in a room in the Netherlands with two graphics cards in it, switched on around the clock, on an electricity bill with my name on it. There is nobody here to escalate to. When the site falls over, the person who notices and the person who fixes it are the same person, and it is usually back inside the hour.
Every other background remover I have used rents its GPUs from a cloud provider by the second, so your photo costs them money the moment it lands. That has to come back out of you somehow: a watermark, three free images, an account, a subscription. My hardware was paid for once. Cutting out one more photo on it costs about as much electricity as a lamp left on for a minute, so there is nothing worth metering. The ads around the tool cover the power and the domain. If they stop covering it, that will be written on this page. I am not going to quietly make the free result worse in order to sell you a better one.
Your photo is uploaded, processed, sent back to your browser, and deleted immediately. Nothing is stored on disk, nothing is added to a training set, nothing is shared with anyone. The erase and restore brushes, backgrounds and downloads all happen locally in your browser after the cutout comes back. The full details are in the privacy policy, but the short version really is that short: I keep nothing, because keeping things costs money and trust and I would rather spend neither.
The segmentation model handles people, products, pets and logos well, including tricky edges like hair and fur. It struggles when there's no clear subject (a landscape, a texture, a very busy collage), and when that happens the tool tells you instead of silently returning an empty PNG. If a cutout keeps a stray patch or misses a spot, the erase and restore brushes let you fix it by hand in seconds: erase turns an area transparent, restore brings the original cutout pixels back; those two only ever work with what the cutout already has. For actually taking an object out of a photo, the Magic erase mode goes further: paint over the object and an AI inpainting model fills in the background behind it. That fill is a reconstruction: great on simple backgrounds, imperfect on very busy ones, and when it falls short I would rather you knew that up front than found out after.
